We are wired to be connected to another person, or persons. A lifelong friend knows you quite well because they have journeyed with you through life stages. When experiencing life’s demands it comforting to have a friend that you can share your most innermost thoughts and feelings with.
The Holy Spirit is your invisible friend. A person who knows you very well. He actually knows you better than you know yourself. Throughout your life He has been seeking you to be your lifelong friend, whether you have known it or not. Usually, we do not discover this until the Holy Spirit makes Himself known through some dramatic way.
Sure, I understand having an invisible friend can be a challenge. Because the Holy Spirit cannot be seen with the natural eye, the Bible gives us images to help us get to know Him as our friend. When the Bible calls Him the “Holy Ghost”, it is referencing Him as a Person who is spirit with a personality and who is God Himself.
Being all-powerful, the Holy Spirit is not scary or evasive. He is a loving, faithful companion seeking you out because He wants to be your friend. Not just any type of friend, but a friend you could depend on in all things and in all circumstances. A friend who will never leave you or forsake you. A friend Who will keep all your secrets. A friend who is always there when you need Him.
The Holy Spirit is and wants to be your lifelong friend. It is up to you to build that friendship by spending time with Him to know Him personally. Besides, He already knows you.
Yes, I declare the Holy Spirit is my lifelong friend. “I will talk to the Father, “Jesus said to His followers, ” and He’ll provide for you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you.” John 14:15 (The Message).
